On the Waterfront

Fun fact about Marlon Brando, he had 15 children. With 6 different woman (alright so two of them were adopted, but still 13 pregnancies were a result of Marlon Brando). Apparently he was “rock and roll” before rock and roll, which sounds ridiculous. And I would totally hate him if he wasn’t so attractive…and talented.

So basically On the Waterfront is about the waterfront industry that is control by mob connected union boss, Johnny Friendly (spoiler alert, he isn’t friendly). Terry Malloy (played by Marlon Brando) isn’t the brightest bulb in the box, and kind of works for Friendly, and has a indirect part in killing a dock worker named Joey. Joey’s sister, Edie, gets crazy upset (as one would) and is determine to stop the mob’s murders. She’s super pretty so Marlon Brando falls in love with her and joins her cause against the mob.

Within the first five minutes Marlon Brando is already screaming someone’s name from the street at an apartment window, so I pretty much loved the movie immediately after that. Who doesn’t love a good call back?

And then it happened like two more times, and I realized that Brando screaming names is an amazing talent of his, they definitely should have it in The Godfather.

The movie was really good though, I mean obviously the acting was amazing, and it was Edie’s first feature film role. And then she won an Oscar for it, so that’s pretty cool. And the film was filled with action and drama and torment (which always makes for a spectacular movie). And then the terrible Juror #3 from 12 Angry Men played the terrible mob boss, which was great because then I immediately hated him from the first moment I saw him. And it’s crazy because the movie is all about personal sacrifice, but then at the end its all about solidarity, and it was just really really good.

Apparently everyone thinks so because it won the Academy Award for Best Picture. And Marlon Brando won for Best Actor, he showed his appreciation by using it as a door stop (some where in the world Leonardo Dicaprio is crying about this). This would also make me angry, but he is super talented and the movie was super amazing.

Rating: 5 out of 5 times Brando screamed someone’s name and it was wonderful
