Good to know for the future, this movie is not called “Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark”, this information would have been helpful to know when I was trying to find the movie. But any who, I think everyone can kind of agree that Harrison Ford is crazy attractive. I feel like Indiana Jones is like the perfect man, he is crazy smart, witty and did I mention incredibly handsome? Who wouldn’t want to spend two hours with him?
So in case you are completely unAmerican, Raiders of the Lost Ark, is about Indiana Jones (played by Harrison Ford), a professor by day, bull whip carrying superman by other days, who searches to find the “Lost Ark” which carries the remains of the Ten Commandments, before the Nazis do (this movie takes place in the 1930s by the way).
To be honest, I wish all of my college professors looked like this,
But I don’t understand why he is wearing the glasses, he only wears them one other time when he is Indiana Jones. Is he trying to make himself look unattractive? Because it isn’t working. Also, I know he is saving precious artifacts and all, but doesn’t the college care that he is never teaching? Just traveling the world, fighting bad guys, but what about his students? What kind of vacation days does this guy receive?
I am totally for the whole Indiana Jones ensemble, but why the bull whip? At what point did they decide that what this character really needed was a whip? I mean it obviously comes in handy throughout the movie, and I know it’s all part of the whole Indiana Jones persona, but I would seriously like to know who thought that a whip was necessary. (Alright, according to “Indiana Jones Wikipedia” he fell in love with the whip when he saw a circus act…okay Internet).
Fun fact! In the scene when Indiana Jones is about to fight the man with the crazy knife skills, (in case you have no idea what I’m talking about)
The firing of the gun was not scripted, Ford wasn’t feeling well that day and was not in the mood to fight this guy, so he just shot him instead. Oh and another fun fact that has to do with Indiana Jones! So one of the sequels, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, was one of the first movies to be rated PG-13. Oh! And Tom Selleck was originally targeted to play Indiana Jones.
But I think the best part about Raiders of the Lost Ark, is the fact that it doesn’t try to be anything that it isn’t. The movie doesn’t want to make you revaluate your life, or teach you some transformative lesson, it just wants to entertain you, as movie were intended. It takes a well known basic plot, and executes it extremely well, and there really isn’t anything else you could ask for.
Rating: 4 out of 5 bull whips
